Hodgepodge

The pack's catch-all patch mod, 2.6.112 to 2.7.196. It exists to fix vanilla and other mods from the outside, so its changes show up everywhere: crash fixes, tweaks to vanilla behaviour, and a large share of the memory work.

EndlessIDs replaces NotEnoughIds

The pack swapped NotEnoughIds for EndlessIDs, a maintained successor by the same lineage that raises not just the block and item ID ceiling but block metadata and biome IDs too. Your world keeps its blocks; the first time you load an existing save you will be asked to confirm the new chunk format, and the game will back the world up before converting. Getting there was not invisible: mods that read chunk block, metadata or biome arrays directly, or that assumed the old entity-data ID ranges, all assumed the old limits and broke against the new ones. The pull requests below are that compatibility work: most of them fix crashes that would have hit on world load or the first time you used the feature, the rest add extended-metadata support or widen compatibility.

Improvements to sound pipeline

A major overhaul of the audio system: positional stereo sounds are now placed in 3D instead of being flattened to mono, and binaural 3D audio for headphones, environmental reverb and an output limiter are available to switch on in the new sound menu. Sound loading no longer stalls the client as frequently, and the new Sound Enhancements menu (under Sound options) lets you switch the new effects on and off in game.

Toggle inventory effect icons

Potion effect icons on the inventory screen can now be turned off with the Hodgepodge config option showInventoryEffectIcons (takes effect after a restart). Other potion displays from mods like Adventure Backpack or StatusEffectHUD remain unaffected.

New features and content

Hodgepodge's config screen gains a Sound section for the Paulscode sound system (channel counts, attenuation, buffer sizes). The crosshair no longer renders while a GUI screen is open, the FPS counter appears in the allocations HUD, and you can toggle F1 to hide the GUI while keeping your hand visible. Scrollbars are now textured instead of hardcoded, lavenders respond to bonemeal in BOP fields, and music delay is configurable.

Changes

Several defaults shift: hand visibility on the F1 toggle is off, simulation distance is off, and the string-interning memory options are off by default; they save RAM but cost load time. The pack re-enables certain transformers and mixins that were previously auto-disabled when conflicting mods like fastcraft or DragonAPI were detected, and a client memory leak fix now re-runs on dimension changes to stay effective.

Performance

Chunk saving is faster and worldgen does less useless work, and item frames beyond 64 blocks now skip rendering their contents (96 blocks for the frame itself). FML event subscriptions are processed more efficiently. Multi-threaded icon loading and string interning for MODIDs and the ASM data table are available too, but both ship disabled in 2.9.0. Wavefront model loading is about three times faster at startup (1.9 s → 0.6 s in the author's profile), leaves at the edge of the loaded chunk area stop rescheduling decay ticks forever, and outbound network compression is faster.

Fixes

A BiblioCraft duplication exploit is patched, IC2 rubber saplings no longer cause bone meal to underflow, and duplicate players on reconnect vanish. Block hit delay after switching between survival and creative works correctly, BiblioCraft armor stands no longer destroy their other half, Thaumcraft golem markers load without errors, and a tile-entity sync error is now handled without spamming the log. Copy/paste/cut/select-all now work in text fields on every platform and keyboard layout, not just macOS, and the boss bar keeps its texture when the crosshair is hidden.
