Bose-Einstein Condensate multiblocks

A new system for assembling late-game parts, built to replace Advanced Assembly Line spam. It arrived mid-cycle and was tuned in the open for the rest of the release, so most of what follows is the balance and recipe work that came after the machines themselves.

Bose-Einstein Condensate: the system arrives

The BEC is five large multiblocks that only work together: the Entanglement Apparatus, the Containment Field, the Maxwell Gate, the Observation Array and the Teleportation Node. It is meant to replace the wall of Advanced Assembly Lines that used to build late-game parts. They all operate on a resource called condensate, which cannot be produced anywhere outside the BEC network, so the system has to be automated with its own hatches and conduits. Assembly is gated on nanites: an Observation Array feeds progress points to every Teleportation Node connected to it, a step whose nanite tier you cannot supply makes no progress at all, and feeding a higher tier than the step asked for does not go faster. Swapping nanites to match the step is how you speed the system up. The design is deliberately lenient in most respects and punishing if you automate it badly: where much of GTNH is all-or-nothing, here there is room to make a working setup faster. OpenComputers drivers ship for the Teleportation Node, the Maxwell Gate and the Containment Field, so a computer can read and drive the network directly.

New BEC parts, materials and recipes

Metamaterials arrived: eight components assembled at the atomic level that stand in for plain foils, bolts and lenses in late-game recipes. They come in two groups, a three-tier set at UIV, UMV and UXV and a four-tier set pitched at Eye of Harmony parts. Shijima, Churitsu and Hexanite came with them, and the BEC multiblocks, casings and hatches got their own recipes so the system can be built. The Teleportation Node gained the Line-Of-Sight Connector Hatch, which links a node to an Observation Array across open air instead of through a conduit. The whole set then went through a full artpass, and OpenComputers picked up drivers for the BEC machines.

BEC recipes, tiering and integration

Metamaterials lost their Advanced Assembly Line recipes. They were a leftover from the design process and the BEC casing recipes never used them, so metamaterials are made in the BEC only. BEC hatches moved up to UIV. The Nanite Detector Hatch is now the Nanite Tier Detector Hatch and has an analog mode that emits a redstone signal matching the current tier, the Line-Of-Sight Connector Hatch's beam lights up while its node is crafting, and conduits were recoloured white on black. The IO nodes are called Bose-Einstein Condensate Teleportation Node now.

BEC balance

Eye of Harmony part recipes moved into the BEC, with the on-tier material cost kept equal to what the Research Station assembly line charged, and a lot of the old Dyson sphere materials swapped for tier-appropriate ones. Entanglement got a hard nerf: recipe times and EU draw both went up, so passive generation and real storage now matter instead of per-recipe buffering. In exchange the Maxwell Gate takes as many filters as there are condensates. Component costs came down where they scaled badly: a Wave Guide takes one lens at every tier instead of one per tier, and the tier-1 Resonance Chamber is buildable before the God Forge. Observation Array hatches must now sit on the first six casings of each ring, which stops two arrays sharing one nanite hatch through a wall.

BEC fixes

BEC multiblocks no longer void their output on a server restart when more than 64 items are waiting to leave. Feeding nanites above the tier a step asked for now costs you: the speed penalty doubles for each tier over, so dumping your best nanites into an array and walking away is no longer the answer. Tier skipping with a parallel limit set now supplies the right amount of input, the assembler's nanite count is capped explicitly at 30,720, and BEC multiblocks report their casing counts properly instead of failing to validate. The NEI handler, the GUI crash and a batch of wrong condensate amounts in recipes were all fixed.

BEC Storage

The Condensate Detector Hatch now refreshes its output when you change its filter, its comparison or its threshold, and when the Containment Field it is watching shuts down and voids its contents. The Containment Field takes up to 21 hatches now: one energy hatch, one detector for the total, and one for each of the 19 condensate types. It also no longer runs while switched off, no longer starts at zero field strength, and breaking a conduit no longer crashes the network.
