Multiblock structure rework
Index · Previous: Before you update (2 of 2) · Next: Bose-Einstein Condensate multiblocks
A long-running push across GregTech and its addons: around fifty multiblocks were redesigned, many of them from community design submissions. Diagnostics improved along the way. Every multiblock now reports which hatches and casings are missing.
A machine already standing in your world keeps running. Its controller keeps the same internal id, still validates the old shape, and has the same stats. The old controller is marked deprecated in its own tooltip, which points you to NEI for the new controller and the conversion recipe. For most machines, when you want the new structure you break the old controller, swap it in a crafting table for the new one, and build the new shape. Two of the swaps are shaped recipes, where the slot you use picks which of two split machines you get. The old controllers are not removed in 2.9. The in-game tooltip's "will be removed in next major update" means the release after this one.
Exothermic Hearth and Endothermic Fridge
The Mega Blast Furnace and Mega Vacuum Freezer are replaced by the Exothermic Hearth and Endothermic Fridge at ZPM tier. Both grow more efficient the longer they run - the Hearth gains parallels, the Fridge gains speed - and either can be pushed harder with pyrotheum or cryotheum.
A tier 2 Fridge swaps the Frost Proof Machine Casings on the first three layers for Infinity Cooled Casing and unlocks Subspace Cooling: perfect overclocks bought with 20 L/s of Molten Infinity, Spacetime or Eternity for one, two or three overclocks respectively.
Because both machines changed tier, their conversion recipes are assembler recipes rather than crafting-table ones.

optional rebuild - nothing breaks and there is nothing you must do. What you already built keeps running as the deprecated
-Legacycontroller. When you want the new structure, break the old controller, use its conversion recipe to swap it for the new one, and rebuild to the new shape.

Industrial Arc Furnace rework, and a circuit every arc furnace now needs
Almost every arc furnace recipe now needs a programmed circuit. The recipe map was rewritten: the plain recipe used to take oxygen and no circuit, and now takes circuit 1 and no fluid, at 1.25x the duration. Gas and plasma variants take circuit 11 plus their gas. This applies to single-block arc furnaces and to the legacy multiblock as much as to the new one, so existing automation that pipes oxygen without a circuit will simply stop finding recipes. Nothing is voided - the machine idles until you put a circuit in.
The multiblock itself was rebuilt with three modes: normal for arc furnace recipes, EBF mode for blast furnace recipes at 16x the power, and ore mode for smelting ores straight to molten metal. The new controller is not a drop-in replacement for the old one - it needs an Electrode Hatch and consumable electrodes, takes six seconds to strike an arc, and cannot skip tiers. Plasma arc furnace recipes were folded into the main map; the Plasma Arc Furnace single blocks were repointed at it and still work.

Tree Growth Simulator
The Tree Growth Simulator was reworked to place its own wood and leaves, so only the 25 dirt or grass blocks are yours to lay, and dirt converts to grass on its own. A fix earlier in the cycle corrected its overclocking with UXV dual energy hatches, which had been drawing 8 GEU/t where it should have drawn 2.

Amazon Warehousing Depot
The Amazon Warehousing Depot was rebuilt, and item pipe casings now set its speed: 200% with Tin pipes up to 900% with Black Plutonium. The old structure ran at a flat 600%, so a fully upgraded one is 50% faster than before - and anything below Osmium pipe casings is slower, which is the point of the progression.

optional rebuild

Industrial Wire Factory
The Industrial Wire Factory has been redesigned with a longer structure and more casing space. Item pipe casings now set its speed, from 50% with Tin up to 400% with Black Plutonium; Quantium pipes match the old flat 300%, and old controllers can be crafted into new ones.

Steam Blender Structure Rework
The Steam Blender multiblock has been restructured to be significantly cheaper - roughly 60% fewer blocks (116 down to 48) - and more compact, reducing its footprint from 7×6×7 to 5×4×5. There is no conversion recipe: a blender you have already placed keeps running on its old shape, but once you break and replace the controller it needs the new one.

Shipped in: GT5-Unofficial #5930
Multiblock Structure Error Diagnostics
When a multiblock fails its structure check, the controller GUI now tells you exactly what went wrong, which hatches or buses are missing, the coordinates of any incorrect block, and which blocks were expected there instead.

A small clickable button appears next to block errors with coordinates. Clicking it closes the GUI, outlines the problem block in the world in red for 10 seconds and turns you to face it, so you can spot it immediately.

Mega Distillation Tower
The Mega Distillation Tower was reworked and now unlocks at LuV with Naquadah, considerably faster and more powerful than before. It has 5 height slices rather than 10, running from 3 output hatches at the shortest to 11 at the tallest, and it can run distillery recipes as well.
Because the machine changed tier, its conversion recipe is an assembler recipe rather than a crafting-table one.

Algae Farm
The Algae Farm was redesigned, and it now needs power. The old pond ran on nothing - its tooltip said "does not require power or maintenance" - while the new one takes exactly one energy hatch drawing 0.9x the voltage of its tier. That hatch, capped by your glass tier, is also what now picks the production tier, replacing the casing tier that used to do it.

Industrial Coke Oven
The Industrial Coke Oven was rebuilt around a scalable coil design: between 1 and 16 slices, or unlimited with Eternal Coils, and a 2% EU discount per coil tier.
Parallels depend on which casing you build it from. Heat Resistant Coke Oven Casing gives 16 base and 8 per extra slice; Heat Proof Coke Oven Casing gives 32 base and 16 per extra slice. Infinity Coils and above also allow a single multi-amp energy hatch.
